This is Daniel's 3rd World Championships, but first as a Radial Sailor. Daniel had previously competed as a 4.7 sailor in Belgium and Poland. Following on from his 1st place at the 2019 Australian Youth Championships in the Laser 4.7 class in January this year, Daniel will be keen to continue his good form going into the radial class and up against the worlds best Youth Laser Sailors (including 5 members of the Australian team who have all won previous national championships). 35 countries and over 160 boys will compete in Kingston over 6 days on one of the largest fresh water lakes in the Northern Hemisphere on Lake Ontario, Kingston. To give you an idea of the size of this lake, it stretches over 310 km in length, is 85m at it's deepest point and has an international border (US/Canada) running straight through the middle of it. At times when the wind is up, it resembles a wild ocean more than it does a lake.
Whilst Daniel is relatively new to the radial class, and will be one of the youngest in the fleet, it will be another fantastic exposure to world class sailing and another big step on his journey towards his ultimate goal. We wish Daniel all the very best in Canada. Below is a link to a recent article published by the St.George & Sutherland Shire Leader on Daniel's preparation just before he departed to Canada.
